This course aims to introduce and familiarize students with “Language Development and Language Disorders”, a discipline that combines cognitive neuroscience, psychology and education. In particular, through this course , students will be introduced to the international literature on language development and language disorders and will have the opportunity to discuss the importance of knowledge on this topic in the effective learning process.
Through course assignments and discussions, students will be challenged to think critically about whether knowledge about language development and language disorders can actually guide the development of strategies and teaching methods to the point of providing useful benefits.
Specifically, students after successful completion of the course will have acquired basic and sufficient knowledge about
• the levels of language knowledge and their importance.
• the linguistic specialisation of the brain.
• dyslexia and specific language disorder.
• educational programmes at different levels of education that are based on knowledge about language development.
• the international literature on language development and language disorders.
